Hydropower Plants under execution
Karcham Wangtoo Hydro Electric project : 1000 MW in Himachal Pradesh on BOO basis
The 1000 MW Karcham Wangtoo hydroelectric project (consisting of four 250 MW units) is currently being developed on the river Sutlej in Kinnaur district of the state of Himachal Pradesh by JKHCL, a company in which JAL currently owns 100% of the equity capital.
It is envisaged as run-of-the-river project designed to generate 4464 MU in a 90% dependable year and 4811 MU in a 50% dependable year. The implementation of the project has commenced. The project is scheduled for commercial operations by 2011.

The project envisages a concrete gravity dam about 43 m high above the river bed (approx. 98 m high above the deepest foundation level). The dam will have 6 sluice spillway bays of size 9m (W) x 9m (H). The other main component of the Project are: 10.48 m diameter, 17.2 km long head race tunnel, 4.75m dia. 4 nos. pressure shafts, an underground power-house with 4 x 250 MW installed capacity, transformer hall and 909 m long 10.48 m dia tail race tunnel.

Project Details – Total Built at cost of Rs. 56000 Million , being downstream of Baspa-II it will have Underground Power House of 1000 MW (4x250 MW).

 
Arunachal Pradesh projects (Lower Siang 2025 MW & 500 MW Hirong)

Pursuant to two memoranda of agreement signed with the state of Arunachal Pradesh on February 22, 2006, JAL was granted 40 years concessions to develop the lower Siang project and the Hirong project on a build-own-operate-transfer basis, following which the projects will revert back to the state.

The memoranda of agreement provide for the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to own 11% of the special purpose vehicle to be incorporated for the implementation of each of these projects. Pursuant to the memoranda of agreement we have agreed to provide 12% of the power generated by each of the Lower Siang project and the Hirong project to the state free of charge for the first 10 years following commissioning and 15% and 15.5% respectively thereafter.
The Lower Siang project is expected to commence operations in 2014 and the Hirong project is expected to commence operations in 2015.

 
Meghalaya projects ( 270 MW Umngot & 450 MW Kynshi)

Pursuant to two memoranda of agreement signed with the state of Meghalaya on December 11, 2007 we have been awarded the Kynshi II project and the Umngot project on a build-own-operate-transfer basis. After 40 years of commercial operation, each of the Meghalaya projects will revert back to the state free of cost.

The memoranda of agreement provide for the Government of Meghalaya to own 26% of each special purpose vehicle to be incorporated for the implementation of each of these projects. Pursuant to the memoranda of agreement we have agreed to provide 12% of the power generated by each of the Kynshi II project and the Umngot project to the state free of charge for the term of the concession.
Each of these projects is expected to commence operations in 2016.
